Inflation in Bolivia for 2009 was just 0.26% the lowest in South America according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). In a press conference, Planning Minister Noel Aguirre affirmed that this was Bolivia’s lowest
level of inflation in the last ten years. He went on to say that Bolivia’s economy is showing remarkable stability and has one of the lowest consumer price indexes of the region. While the national inflation level for 2009 was 0.26% on a regional level the states of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Tarija experienced higher price inflation while the states of Oruro, La Paz, Sucre, Beni, Pando & Potosi recorded worrying price deflation according to the National Statistics Institute director Martha Oviedo.
