The new Investigative Authority for Social Control of Forests and Land or ABT for short has confiscated 1,034,895 board feet of illegally harvested timber in its 8 months of operations. This timber comes mostly from
the Amazonian regions of the La Paz, Santa Cruz, Beni, Tarija and Pando states. This is in addition to 41,319 whole tree trunks that were also confiscated from black market loggers in the same time period. The ABT replaced the older Superindency of Forests and Agriculture and has been vigorously investigating and prosecuting Bolivia’s rampant illegal logging trade. For figures on the amounts of illegal timber conficscated in each state please see the link on our website.
