New Curriculum

The Ministry of Education announced on December 28th that it will implement new school curriculum designed to integrate indigenous wisdom and customs into mainstream Bolivian education.

Viceminister Germán Jiménez is charged with this task, he said, “The purpose is to collect the customs of the indigenous peoples, popular sectors, from all the fragments of the bolivian people without exclusion.” Jiménez explained that an educational conference of urban and rural teachers in 2010 will bring these teachers together with indigenous leaders to create a concensus about policies of inclusion. The ministry of education announced that curriculum will incorporate fields such as indigenous philosophy, cosmovision, themes of earth and territory as well as ethics and civics.
